Social Media has negatively impacted our society, by people getting addicted to it as well as having negative side effects on their mental health. Digital Detox Centre is to aid people and allow them to have a break from their busy and scheduled lives. To break down the stress from the daily lifestyle and have people to talk to as well as become distracted with daily activities such as art, yoga and cooking classes as well as beauty workshop group therapy and one-to-one therapy.
Social media puts us in a position that no matter what we do, it feels like it’s not enough. The design purpose of The Digital Detox facility is to forget about the online world, by the use of the daylight within the interior as well as the use of materials and colours, as they are fundamental elements of interior architecture which can change the user’s perception of the space. The use of materials within the space is adapted to identify designated areas which are private, semi-private and public spaces which were carefully considered due to patients with common mental health disorders. The intervention within this facility was designed to guide the patients through the space. The use of colour in this structure was proven to improve people’s wellbeing and how they feel. The centre is based in the city center of Lincoln, a growing city with an influential university that is the main source of patients. This also allows the facility to be near multiple sources of long distance travel like train and buses, allowing patients to travel and stay overnight in the facility.
