Within my work I love to experiment and this collection is no different.. I have worked on my pattern cutting skills within this project learning how to sew a curved seam in order to reflect my topic of inspiration. Within my design I also work with prints a lot and colours. Along with this, I have photographed and edited all of the imagery within my project.

‘LE NOUVEAU MONDE’

Swirling, curved lines transcend through this womenswear 2023 collection, mimicking the glamorous art nouveau architecture. ‘Le Nouveau Monde’: translates to ‘The new World’ plays ode to 19th century parisian fashion and architecture. 

Vibrant colours taken from the beautiful stained glass windows inside galleries lafayette inspire the colour palette for this collection. Neoprene scuba fabric juxtaposes against tailored silk blended cotton, re-creating a modernised Parisian look. 

Concept influence comes from life of those living in paris during the transformation of Haussmann between the years of 1853- 1870. After the french revolution morale was low in Paris, thus, Georges Eugiene Haussmann was appointed by Napoleon III to transform Paris into the ‘modernised Paris’. The biggest transformations that Haussmann is known to have created the railway transport, separated Paris into sections (known as arrondissements), shopping centres and overall a busier and brighter Paris. 

Details of the collection include overlocking on the outside of the garments mimicking the shapes of the railway tracks and the patterns of the interior of Galleries Lafayette. Furthermore, elements such like ruffles and straight leg trousers have come from the fashions of the 19th century Parisian people, reflected into structural and architectural shapes. Art Nouveau architectural curves continuously appear within the collection forming contrasting and complementary details or textures through use of fabric.
